Over the past 2 to 3 decades usage of vehicles has been increased enormously. Due to the enormous increase of vehicle usage, automobile emissions are the major source of most of the toxic pollutants in urban areas. For the upcoming generations, the automobile industries are focusing on designing the vehicles with high fuel efficiency, Green cars or pollution free cars, high comfort and infotainment, giving new looks etc.
FUEL EFFICIENCY
Most manufacturers are coming up with innovative ideas like Gasoline engine with electric motor that provides high fuel efficiency, Battery electric drives which provides zero emissions, alternate fuels like Ethanol, Hydrogen, Natural gas and other renewable fuel resources to provide lower emission levels and increase fuel efficiency.
Aftermarket manufacturers are also shifting the focus towards fuel economy concerns. For example, Federal-Mogul, maker of engine pistons and other internal engine parts, very recently announced that it will begin selling a newly designed two-piece piston ring that can cut both oil use and emissions drastically.
GREEN CARS
Environmentalists proved that cars are the major contributors of pollution. Not just the environmental issues but also spiraling fuel prices made all the global manufacturers think about the green/hybrid/eco-friendly cars to fight over the environmental issues.
Recently, The Geneva show and the Auto Expo saw a series of hybrid and green cars, which proves that most of the car manufacturers are really serious about the environmental protection. Almost 800,000 people visited ‘The Beijing Auto Show 2010’ exhibition displaying around 990 cars from various global manufacturers.
Also, a research program Partnership for a New Generation of Vehicles (PNGV) has been formed for new generation automotive research to improve the fuel economy, reducing the emissions from the cars, and other light duty vehicles, pickup trucks and SUV’s. PNGV involved 8 federal agencies, the national laboratories, universities and USCAR comprising DaimlerChrysler, Ford and General Motors.
A Canadian engineering firm, Motive has gone a step ahead and announced that they use hemp to make lightweight composite body panels for their new Kestrel. Motive’s innovations are towards using of bio-composites to deliver strong, lightweight, recyclable cars.
INFOTAINMENT
On the other hand, the expectations of newer generations are growing higher and higher making automobile industries invent more in the field of Infotainment. Consumer demands are increasing for the sophisticated rear seat entertainment systems. Innovation continues to drive as per the consumers interests, whether they watch movie or TV, play video games, or operate electronic gadgets etc.,
Altera is inventing the new rear seat infotainment system which enables dual video-in and single/dual video outputs. Mercedes-Benz viano sets a bench mark for the comfort, material quality, rear end look and headlamps, efficiency and performance in large vehicles to a new level.
CONCLUSION
However, the new generation automobiles should focus more on eco friendly vehicles which will leave the world green, clean and clear. People should even consider a fact that excessive driving leads to excessive weight and ultimately leading to the consumption of excess fuel. According to American Public Transportation Association, people who live in areas with extensive public transit live longer and healthier lives. Choice is yours!!
